1994_ho_00_p_346x260 Destinations can make an accommodation what it is. They define its market as well as influence to some extent the tone of its design. At Mercure Queenstown Resort however, as much as destinations influence its operations, its staff would insist that what primarily defines its existence are the guests themselves. Yet while that may be true to some extent, proximity and access to these destinations actually qualifies the type of guests that will come to the resort.

One important destination not far from Mercure Queenstown is the Queenstown Event Center. It is both an ideal venue for business and sporting events, two occasions that has the potential of drawing guests to the resort. Another popular destination that is of equal or perhaps greater draw is the Lake Wakatipu itself. Leisure tours are popular in Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu is its most imposing natural wonder. Although its bird’s eye view can be accessed at Mercure itself, its shoreline remains a curiosity among tourists.

Queenstown Park is a more wholesome, family level destination that is a good draw for domestic tourists, including educational traveler and excursionists. It is a only a healthy walking distance away at about 3 km. Other nearby attractions that may be package with a trip to Queenstown Park is the Arrowtown Museum where tourists can learn a thing or two more about the Maori traditions.

For alpine adventurers, there is the Coronet Peak, the nearest peak of access to Mercure Queenstown Resort where skiers can indulge their passions.1994v01

Commercial adventure packages from AJ Hackett Bungy, Earnslaw Steamer Cruise, Pure Adventure and Shotover Jet are also just around the vicinity. All within a very conducive 10 km distance from Mercure Queenstown Resort, they are high end favorites that have been bringing guests to the resort.

In the end Mecure Queenstown Resort indeed profits from all the popular destinations around it but its success business is largely because it itself is a destination.
